Canada's Blue Jays Earn World Series Meeting With defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

George Springer contributed to the Astros claiming the championship in 2017.

Canada's MLB team advanced to their initial championship series after 1993 by beating the Mariners in the final Game 7 of the AL Championship Series.

Down 3-1, outfielder George Springer delivered a three-run home run in the seventh inning, propelling the only Canadian franchise in the majors to a four games to three victory in the best-of-seven series. They will now face the Dodgers, holders of the reigning title, in the forthcoming World Series.

"I'm thrilled for this squad, Toronto, our country," commented Springer, an integral part of the Astros team that secured the 2017 title. "What an incredible feeling."

George Springer has now connected for 23 post-season home runs, placing him third in history after Ramirez (29) and Altuve (twenty-seven).

"There's probably not anyone else anywhere that I'd choose in that situation besides him with his playoff prowess," said Blue Jays manager John Schneider.

Seattle, who had led the early in the series, are still the sole team never to appear in a World Series.

Wilson said "without a doubt that it's painful" after his side's defeat at their home ballpark, but commended their performance this season.

"They're an exceptional squad. Sadly that we ended up on the unsuccessful side of this game," he added.

Toronto's team won the title on both previous visits in the early 90s, and are set to host the Dodgers in game one on this Friday.
