Manchester United Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
The forward, with six months left on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the WSL side.
Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Attack
The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Old Trafford
Securing the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be building momentum.
Their recent performances feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional activity:
- The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.
On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
