Person That Touched Ariana Grande on the occasion of Red Carpet Event Barred from Singapore
An individual of Australian nationality who vaulted across a fence and reached for celebrity Ariana Grande has been deported and barred from Singapore.
The man, twenty-six, was given a sentence to over a week in prison for being a public nuisance and has now been "banned from entering the country again," the country's border control stated to Singaporean press.
Wen pushed through camera crews and approached aggressively the actress and singer, who was attending the Asian debut for the musical adaptation on November 13. Co-performer Cynthia Erivo pulled him back from Grande.
He has a background of causing disturbances at events and high-profile gatherings, including rushing the stage at the pop star's Australian show in this summer.
The event provoked strong reactions in Singapore, with many saying he of triggering past trauma for the singer.
The singer has spoken of suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after a terrorist bombing at her show in Manchester in spring of 2017 resulted in the deaths of 22 people and affected hundreds.
Throughout the court proceedings, the judge was informed he had tried to gain access on the film's premiere on two occasions, according to Singaporean media.
He then made a follow-up try to breach security. Protection personnel prevented him and held him in place.
Wen later posted video clips expressing gratitude to the star for allowing his presence and said he was "free."
Police detained him the subsequent day and brought charges against him with disorderly conduct, to which Wen pleaded guilty.
The Presiding Judge the magistrate was cited by Channel News Asia as stating that he was looking for publicity, noting that he was wrong to believe he would not suffer any consequences.
The actress has not commented on the case.
The co-star discussed the incident to NBC, stating that she "only aimed to ensure my co-star was secure."
"I think he didn't mean us injury, but you never know with those things, and I aimed to make sure that she was fine. That was my immediate response," she said.
