President Trump Welcomes Relatives of Attacked Military Personnel to White House
President Donald Trump stated on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the loved ones of a National Guard member killed last week to come to the presidential home.
He added that he spoke to her parents and they were “devastated”.
Information on the Heartbreaking Incident
Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a shooting on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her fellow service member, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in grave state.
Vigils across the state have occurred in their honor.
White House Call
The commander-in-chief stated he’s proposed a meeting at the presidential residence for the parents of both members of the West Virginia Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a tough thing, arrive at the White House. We’re going to honor her,” the president addressed reporters. “And similarly with him, whether he recovers or not.”
Community Support
Community members gathered over the past few days at Webster County high school in the state to pay respects to Beckstrom.
Both they had been working with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s national effort to aid policing efforts in the capital.
Paying Tribute to Beckstrom
“Sarah was the individual that educators desired. She behaved with inner fortitude, a warm expression and a optimistic attitude that inspired people around her,” the principal, the principal of Beckstrom’s previous school, informed the Associated Press. “She was sweet, caring and always willing to assist people.”
Funeral plans for Sarah are still being arranged.
Legal Measures and Policy Revisions
Officials have charged a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with a charge of first-degree murder and charges of violent assault while carrying a weapon.
The event prompted the government to pause asylum applications and cease providing visas to holders of travel documents.
Status of the Airman
The airman, a native of the city, began his service in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, as reported by the AP.
He is still undergoing care and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia governor Morrisey said on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer the attorney general stated on a news show that she also intended to meet with his relatives.
Impact of Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County high school in June 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a MP with excellence, as stated by the state guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she definitely had bravery,” he informed the audience at the memorial. “Though her life was cut short, she has left a mark that’s going to endure.”
