PSG Defeats Marseille on Penalties to Claim Trophee des Champions Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now secured the prestigious cup on fourteen different times.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the match featuring the French league champions and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger opened the net in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side struck two times in the closing moments to seize a shock lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial leveler in the dying moments to force the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 shootout win.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the past thirteen years.
