The Mighty Nein's Introductory Sequence Selected the Incorrect Critical Role Song

The Mighty Nein, the most recent animated series from Critical Role, unveiled an exciting opening credits. It showcases our favorite group of outcasts, outcasts, and criminals kicking ass and taking names, while also hinting at several heart-wrenching personal histories for key figures such as the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, the character Fjord.

Overall, the opening appears amazing. But I couldn't help feeling that something was missing in the song choice.

The intro uses "Welcome to the Continent", a truly stellar composition created by artist Colm McGuinness. This piece originating from the official score of the same name, the second one released by Critical Role Productions LLC's music division their music brand. It's a wonderful sentimental choice, and I suspect that fans of the second campaign will appreciate its presence.

Personally, The series' opening doesn't quite capture the hype and energy that was part of the second campaign's actual-play adventure. "It's Your Turn", composed by singer-songwriter Jason Charles Miller, became an immediate hit for me when it was first revealed in that year, and it improved further when cast member the performer wrote words to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in the later year.

Including singing from Ashley Johnson, another performer, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the song was memorable and fun. Back then, I hadn't even watched the second campaign at that point, but it was so infectious that I kept it on my device. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an episode of adventurous fun.

The show's opening with "the new song" fails to hit the right notes for me. It's a grand composition, but from what I know of this party, I feel that its mood is somewhat mismatched.

Of course, the creators has already said that the animated show will have some changes and differences from the original live sessions. A tonal change for its opening seems to be among these.

The Mighty Nein will be available to watch on Prime Video from Nov. 19. For those eager until then, or want a head start to learn about the characters of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are accessible on the audio platform and YouTube.
