Vince Gilligan Discloses He Knows How The Apple TV+ Show Will End... Currently.

Vince Gilligan did not foresee that the Apple TV+ show would turn into a massive hit. “The viewers have been incredible,” he remarks. “I did not foresee the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

With the first season of the hit sci-fi show reaching its finale—and a second season greenlit and underway—the creative team reflected on the viewer reception and whether it will impact the future direction of Pluribus.

Regarding the Tremendous Fan Response

Anyone might to get sidetracked by the rampant praise and audience predictions regarding Pluribus. He is striving to avoid both.

“The experience is akin to force fed your favorite dessert and being in a state of bliss,” he says. “It's amazing, but I learn of it through word of mouth, and that's intentional. Never in my life Googled myself, nor do I ever want to. It's quite the opposite. It's a deep trap I know I would disappear down and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”

Regardless of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s it's impossible to ignore the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to take it in stride and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“It is not our goal to change the plot,” says Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not changed by what people are saying.”

“It's wiser to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan concludes.

A Pressing Query: Does the showrunner Know the Ending of Pluribus?

So if the creative staff are not listening by fan response, can we assume they have already decided how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? The answer is yes… in a way.

“We've developed some potential directions about where the show might end up,” Gilligan says. “yet we stand ready to abandon a decent plan for a more brilliant plan. That has held us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we find a more perfect path and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

Then again, if they hit a wall, Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to use as a backup.

“I constantly suggest that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and that's where they've been all along,” he says humorously, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Of course, one could always use the classics?

“I'd love for Carol to awaken next to Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus is currently available on the streaming service.
